We all know that stress is a serious issue that can affect our mental state. People who are stressed find it hard to cope with day to day scenarios. It feels like nothing they do is working, and the weight of the world is crashing down on them. It’s a well-known fact that stress is closely linked to mental illnesses like depression.

Causes Aches & Pains

If you’re stressed, then you’ll probably end up with lots of aches and pains. Sometimes, we think this is just a coincidence, another thing to add to our stress. However, there are clear links between stress and our muscles. When someone is stressed, our muscles tend to tense up and tighten. Now, imagine feeling stressed all day, every day, your muscles will be so tight and tense! As such, it’s natural for them to become sore and cause our pain. Causes Fatigue

Stress can cause you to become severely fatigued every single day. When you’re stressed, you tend to develop insomnia. You’re inability to sleep properly leads to you feeling exhausted the next day. Then, you go out and do your daily routine with hardly any energy in the tank as it is. By the time you get to mid-afternoon, you’re incredibly fatigued. Over time, you can develop a problem known as adrenal fatigue. As mentioned here it’s a condition that affects almost every adult. Sadly, when you feel fatigued, you end up in a destructive cycle. You get even more stressed, which leads to further feelings of fatigue. The best way to break this cycle is to counter your stress and start sleeping better at night.

Causes Weight Gain

The final issue we’ll talk about is how stress can make you gain weight. It’s natural for someone to become addicted to foods that are high in fat and sugar when they’re stressed. Our mind thinks we need ‘comfort food’ to make us feel better and relax. So, stressed people binge on foods that are bad for them and lead to excessive weight gain. Plus, couple this with fatigue and you have no energy to exercise. To counter this, I suggest making sure you only buy food that is good for you. This stops you reaching for bad snacks because they won’t be in your fridge/cupboards.

Stress is a serious issue that affects people of all ages. It’s getting to the time of the year where students need to be aware of their stress levels. Exams are approaching, and it’s easy to get stressed out. Focus on relaxation techniques, and everything will be fine.
