A Vaccination Guide for Cats

A great philosopher once said- “In this world there are two types of people, those who love cats and those who love dogs”. If you find that you’re part of the group that loves cats, and you in fact own one of your own, you’ll be happy to know that you can keep them safe thanks to the use of vaccinations.

If you don’t know much about vaccinations, or are familiar with them, but don’t know where to get started, deciding on the right course of action can be tricky. Despite this, millions of cats get vaccinated around the world every year, so you can follow the paths of people who’ve helped their cats, so you know what to do in order to protect your feline friends properly.

What to Protect Against

The world can be a dangerous place when it comes to diseases. Vaccinations give you a chance to get the upper hand however, though one vaccine might not protect against all diseases. It’s therefore important that you figure out what the most dangerous diseases are, and what vaccinations are required in order to provide protection. For most cat owners they’ll need to consider the following diseases: Feline Viral, Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Panleukopenia. The list could vary however, and so it’s best to be cautious, and ask the vet you’re using to vaccinate your cat, if there could be anything you’re missing.

When to Vaccinate

Most kitten vaccinations take place between the ages of 6-12 weeks. There may also be the requirement for some booster shots later on down the line, as your cat approaches the age of six months. Knowing when to come back shouldn’t be too much of an issue however, as your vet should be able to tell you when your pet is next due for a boost on their immunisations.

Will My Cat Never Get Sick Now?

Though vaccinations are highly effective in their nature, and have protected cats for years now against the deadly diseases that plague the world, there are never any guarantees. Sometimes, vaccines may not be effective, and so it’s important to remember this so you don’t come to see the vaccinations as a cure-all.

Is it covered by Insurance?

This may depend on who is providing your pet insurance, though more often than not it is not likely to be covered. If you’d like to find out more, get in touch with the company that provides your pet insurance, and see if they’re able to cover the vaccinations. If they don’t, you could always shop around, and see if there is a company that can help you with this.

Protect Cats From Attack

Cats love to be independent animals that wander around the garden in solitude. The fact that they love their independence so much, also means that they’re more likely to go off into an environment where they could catch something unsanitary. You’ll never be able to watch your cat 24/7, though with the help of vaccinations, you don’t need to, as by getting them the right treatment in advance, you’ve already done what’s need to keep them safe from dangerous diseases.
